The Dream

In 2020, during Trump’s first term, I had a dream of America in dystopia. The nation had no modern technology. I always wondered if it was some kind of EMP that wiped out America’s advancements, because in the dream, the only place prospering was where I worked — a combination department store, supermarket, and office all on one level.

I worked in the office section, in a cubicle. My boss was a savvy businessman who not only knew old programming languages like FORTRAN and COBOL but had preserved the equipment to run them. He built a computer system to manage inventory on an old beige desktop, its black screen glowing with green text.

The streets I walked were lined with empty buildings that once housed thriving businesses. The city wasn’t decrepit like a movie apocalypse, the streets were clean and quiet — it was simply stuck in time, while the rest of the world advanced. The office where I worked was modest, not too large, with cubicles, restrooms, and a break room. Nothing fancy yet not depressing. The space where my boss worked had cages on the windows, one way in and one way out, secure but small. I was happy, I was one of the few Americans that had a good, well-paying job. And I admired my boss for his intelligence and wisdom.

One day Donald Trump arrived with the Secret Service to observe operations. America was suffering, and they wanted to see how to replicate our system. Though Trump himself had caused the nation’s collapse, he still walked in with pomp and arrogance. I even remember Queen Latifah was part of the secret service detail, which bemused me. While Trump, the few people that were with him, and a few Secret Service agents went into my boss’ office, Queen Latifah stayed outside of the office standing guard by my boss’ closed office door. I remember seeing my boss excitedly show Trump the computer system while explaining the import/export business model he operated as Trump stood gazing at the system like he understood it, when clearly he didn’t. I quickly left my boss’ office and returned to my cubicle.

Minutes later, an angry white man burst through the door with an automatic rifle, screaming, “Where is he? Where IS he? He LIED TO US! HE LIED TO US!” I could see the pain and despair on the man’s face as he was screaming and waving the weapon around and then turned and stormed toward my boss’ office. I ducked under my desk while everyone else did the same under theirs. Although the man had no intention of shooting us, only Trump, we were still afraid, because bullets have no name. I then ran to the bathroom to hide, only to realize it had no windows to escape out of. So eventually I ducked out of the bathroom and found the back door, and along with others, ran for my life. I remember sprinting for blocks until I reached safety.

2025

When the assassination attempt on Trump happened in summer 2024, I thought that was the dream fulfilled. That one of his followers would attempt to take his life. Because to be clear, from the dream all I recall is an attempt and then the dream switched to my fleeing for safety. The dream did not detail that the attempt was successful or unsuccessful. However, the 2024 assassination attempt wasn’t the dream’s fulfillment. What I saw in that dream is still unfolding before us.

We are watching, in real time, people in Trump’s Cabinet and others actively working to undermine, destabilize, and dismantle the very structures and safeguards that once held this nation together. Systems designed to protect democracy and sustain society are being eroded — sometimes openly, sometimes under the cover of law.

That’s why the ICE raid on Hyundai in Georgia stood out to me. To sabotage a facility that could have provided almost 5,000 direct jobs and 40,000 indirect jobs in the name of hate — that is beyond myopic. That is self-harm. America looks more and more like ancient Israel in the days of Rehoboam and Jeroboam — when arrogance, folly, and idolatry split the kingdom in two. The division itself was judgment.

It will be a dark day when foreign nations begin pulling their nationals, shuttering factories, and closing offices in America. When they stop trading with this nation. Trump foolishly believes all technology originates in America — it does not. And as this nation isolates its allies, it will be cut off from that technology. With crumbling infrastructure and outdated nuclear systems, America is headed for a rude awakening.

Closing Reflections

Dreams often speak in symbols, and this one was no different. Let me point to just a few:

• The Empty City and Lost Technology — a symbol of America losing what it prides itself on most, its edge in innovation and strength, leaving it vulnerable and “stuck in time.”

• The Boss with Old Knowledge — a picture of wisdom preserved, the remnant who hold on to what others discarded, and who quietly sustain life when the larger systems fail.

• The Angry White Man with a Rifle — a sign of how Trump’s base will eventually feel betrayed and turn on him, their rage threatening the very structures that still stand.

• The Back Door Escape — the way of survival God always provides, even when it feels like there is no vision and no way forward.

The wheels are already in motion. Whether you see this dream as a precursor, a forecaster, or simply a warning, the reality is clear: democracy in America is being unraveled. It is textbook, and yet people refuse to believe what is happening is happening because America has long been inoculated against the frailties of other nations. But open your eyes — look at Germany, at Rwanda, at other nations that collapsed under the weight of division, propaganda, and violence.

Things are not going back to the way they were. An election will not fix this. Trump’s federal government has sharply increased the budget for ICE through new appropriations — tens of billions for detention centers, enforcement, and expansion with recruiting for the agency happening around the country, even on college campuses. This is occurring while the federal government is actively cutting social welfare programs funding and sending the National Guard to harass Democratic-led cities.

These are deliberate choices of priority. And when a government pours unprecedented resources into ICE while holding flat or cutting growth in programs like food support, public health, or FEMA’s operational budgets, it is effectively reallocating national resources.

The disturbing decision to rename the Department of Defense the Department of War is not a throwback to a golden age. It is an aggressive statement to the world and to America’s own citizens. You can pretend what is happening is not happening, but pretending will not make it go away.

It’s time to tell the truth and shame the devil. America must stop blaming mental illness for domestic terrorism and confront radicalization instead. Every time a mass shooting or an act of domestic terrorism happens, the same tired excuse gets rolled out:

It must have been mental illness.

This narrative isn't just wrong — it’s a violent distortion of reality. Mental illness doesn’t radicalize someone into hate. Mental illness doesn't plant bombs or storm capitols waving hate symbols. Radicalization does.

Mental Illness ≠ Violence

There is a false equivalence here.

• According to the American Psychological Association (APA), people with mental illnesses are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators.

• A 2015 study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that only about 4% of violence in the United States can be attributed to mental illness.

• In fact, substance abuse and radical ideological beliefs are much stronger predictors of violent behavior than mental health conditions.

Yet after shootings like Uvalde or Charleston, we hear the same script: "He was troubled." But "troubled" doesn’t explain:

• Why 66% of domestic terror attacks are tied to white supremacists (CSIS, 2020).

• Why the Capitol rioters included military veterans and CEOs—not just "loners."

• Why mass shooters often leave manifestos steeped in racist, misogynist, or anti-government rhetoric.

Radicalization is the Real Threat

The FBI has warned for years that white supremacist extremism is the #1 domestic terror threat.

• The FBI and Department of Homeland Security consistently warn that white supremacist extremism is the greatest domestic terrorism threat facing the United States. According to a 2022 Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee report, “White supremacist extremists pose the primary threat among all domestic violent extremists. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) provided the Committee with data showing white supremacists were responsible for 51 out of 169 domestic terrorist attacks and plots from 2010 through 2021, the highest number among domestic terrorist ideologies”

• Since 2019, both DHS and the FBI have repeatedly stated in official threat assessments and congressional testimony that white supremacist violence is the most persistent and lethal terrorist threat to the United States.

• In 2020, a report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) found that over 66% of domestic terror attacks and plots were carried out by white supremacist extremists.

These attackers are not mentally ill — they are radicalized through online propaganda, conspiratorial communities, and political rhetoric that dehumanizes others:

• Online echo chambers (4chan, Telegram, extremist YouTube channels).

• Conspiracy theories (Great Replacement, QAnon).

• Political rhetoric that frames minorities as "invaders" or "threats."

Why the "Mental Illness" Excuse Persists

Political Expediency: It's easier to blame mental illness than confront the political radicalization many leaders have stoked. Blaming mental illness lets lawmakers avoid gun reform and ignore their own role in stoking extremism. As of 2023, 12 states have passed laws loosening gun restrictions while citing "mental health solutions" (Giffords Law Center).

Media Bias: Violent white attackers are often humanized, while Black or Muslim attackers are quickly labeled "terrorists."

Studies show white attackers receive 3x more sympathetic coverage (Columbia Journalism Review, 2021).

Protecting Privilege: Calling out white nationalist terror forces a reckoning with America's unfinished work on racism and inequality.

• Systemic racism (e.g., Trump’s "very fine people" comment).

• Gun culture’s ties to far-right militias (NRA’s ties to extremist groups, per Reuters).

Call to Action

We must end the false narratives that scapegoat the vulnerable while excusing violent radicalization.

We must:
✅ Demand media stop sanitizing white terror—call it what it is.
✅ Pressure lawmakers to investigate extremist networks, not deflect to "mental health."
✅ Challenge friends/family/neighbors who parrot these myths.

Do The Research

I encourage you to look deeper. Especially if you come from a community — or hold beliefs — aligned with these extremist ideologies.

Radicalization is a form of conditioning.
You are being groomed — slowly and systematically — to adopt someone else’s extremist worldview. I challenge you—especially if you come from communities sympathetic to extremist ideologies—to interrogate the narratives you’ve been fed. Radicalization doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a deliberate conditioning process, much like grooming:

1. Dehumanization First: Hate groups always start by convincing you their enemies are less than human—"vermin," "invaders," "pedophiles." Sound familiar?

2. Us vs. Them: They isolate you from dissent (e.g., "fake news" rhetoric) and foster dependency on their ideology.

3. Escalation: What begins with memes ("libtard") evolves into violent rhetoric ("hang Mike Pence"), then action (January 6th).

Who is the most powerful groomer in America today? Donald Trump.
For nearly a decade, he has held rally after rally — not to unite or uplift — but to stoke grievance, incite fear, and condition people into embracing the violent, exclusionary tenets of MAGA ideology.

His rallies and social media have weaponized:

• Conspiracy theories: QAnon, "stolen election"

• Dehumanizing language: "Mexican rapists," "enemies of the people"

• Violent escalation: "Stand back and stand by," "I’ll pay your legal fees if you riot"

This isn’t politics—it’s radicalization. And the data proves it:

• Trump supporters are 3x more likely to endorse violence to achieve political goals (UChicago, 2023).

• Counties that hosted Trump rallies saw 226% more hate crimes (Washington Post, 2021).

But just like in Russia, our votes may soon be rendered powerless. The machinery of democracy is being eroded behind the scenes, and many Americans, distracted by culture wars and divisive rhetoric, are failing to see the greater danger.

Trump is a Chaos Agent

Trump’s role has always been that of a chaos agent. His job is to create a constant distraction—one that keeps the public and media focused on him, while those pulling the strings in the background work to systematically dismantle the institutions that protect our freedoms. His tactics aren’t new; they’re taken straight from the authoritarian playbook. Divide, conquer, and distract.

But there’s another uncomfortable truth. Just as Russia's government has targeted specific minority groups, America is beginning to follow a similar path. The GOP, with its regressive policies and alliance with extremist groups, has stoked a fire that threatens to consume the freedoms of not just a few, but entire swaths of the population. People of color, immigrants, and others who don't fit the narrow mold of the "American ideal" are at risk of being marginalized and silenced, much like the ethnic minorities in Russia who remain largely invisible to the world.

And as the GOP continues its authoritarian drift, the rest of the country is lulled into complacency. People laugh at the deported, fight over cultural symbols, and believe the distractions. Meanwhile, the people who are really in power are quietly consolidating their control over the nation’s institutions—just like Russia's oligarchs, who pull the strings behind Putin’s regime.

The question is: How much longer will we remain distracted? How long before we, too, lose our ability to freely express dissent and resist tyranny? As history has shown time and time again, once authoritarianism takes root, it’s incredibly difficult to uproot.

The stakes are high, and the time to wake up is now. America is teetering on the brink. If we don’t act, we risk losing everything that makes this country a place of freedom and hope.

What Should We do?

I don’t have the answers. But this is not a “me” problem to solve—it is a “we” problem that must be addressed. As a writer and minister, I walk the line between recognizing human agency and God’s sovereignty. So, instead of prescribing a solution, I pose these questions to you. I hope you will sit with them, gather with others who are as concerned about the land we call home as you are, and have the hard conversations that this moment demands.

Consider:

• How do you act against such a heavily armed nation?

History offers some painful lessons:

• The MOVE organization in Philadelphia created a counter-movement, and the government responded with bombings.

• The Black Panther Party, which focused on feeding the poor and empowering Black communities, was labeled a terrorist group simply because they sought to form a third party and gained support from the public. The response? Violence.

Trump’s regime is not unfamiliar with this playbook. He is already cracking down on free speech, threatening arrests for those who oppose him, and arresting even green card holders for speaking out in support of Palestine.

The reality is we’re already at the tipping point. But here’s the question: What can we do in the face of a well-armed nation and a government willing to use force to silence dissent? I'm not going to tell anyone to take to the streets and risk being slaughtered. The challenge is, how do we fight back when the very system in place is designed to crush resistance, often violently?

Fellow readers, I don’t make the headlines—I examine them. And in a world full of shifting narratives and moving targets, I aim to get to the heart of the matter: how does it impact us, and what does it really mean? Let’s be clear—in this scenario, one side is lying while the other is standing their ground. One side is the bully; the other is defending itself. The claim that China will “pay” a 145% tariff is misleading. The truth? American citizens will foot the bill. That tariff just means a 145%1 increase in the cost of the product. And even items not labeled "Made in China" will feel the ripple effect—because so many products start in China, especially since the West outsourced its polluting factories there. The crows have come home to roost.

There are factions within America preparing for war, calling for civil war, and strategizing for a deeper division within our nation. From what we’ve seen in the insurrection, we know that certain elements within the military and law enforcement are willing to side with those in power, regardless of the consequences. It’s an eerie sense of déjà vu—especially when we take into account Kevin Roberts’ words:

He showed me that the eye of the storm would pass directly over my house and that the hurricane would bring significant destruction.

I was scheduled to attend a preaching conference in Dallas as the storm barreled toward Houston. But I had no peace about going. I canceled my plans and kept watching as the Lord continued to speak to me, impressing upon me that this storm was more than just a natural disaster—it was a prophetic sign. When the power went out across Houston and surrounding counties, the Lord told me: Power structures in America will fall. The blackout became a metaphor for the political upheaval unfolding before our eyes.

Everything the Lord showed me about Beryl came to pass. And that unease hasn’t left me. In fact, it has only grown stronger. From the time of Hurricane Beryl in July 2024 until now, the Lord has continued to speak to me, revealing the trajectory America is on. War is coming to America. In many ways, it has already begun.

As I watch current events unfold, I can’t help but point to the video I shared—featuring Kevin Roberts’ words alongside Rachel Maddow’s commentary. This is no longer business as usual. The Democrats are slumbering, trapped in the same politics-as-usual mindset, while the storm rages around them. The world is shifting rapidly, and people need to wake up to what’s at stake.

America’s Drift to a Russian Reality

In Russia, citizens can vote, but they have no real power. Under Vladimir Putin, dissent has been brutally suppressed, with documented cases of poisoning and imprisonment of political opponents. Meanwhile, in China, President Xi Jinping removed presidential term limits, effectively allowing him to remain in office indefinitely, consolidating power. Both leaders have used these tactics to maintain their authority, signaling a shift toward authoritarianism.

Here in the U.S., we are on a similar trajectory. Our votes, our legislation—they are being undermined. Trump has expressed admiration for Xi's and Putin's methods, both of whom have effectively centralized power and removed checks on their authority. Whether we want to admit it or not, this is not the America we knew on 11/4/2024. Life has irrevocably changed.

I refuse to offer people false hope or sugar-coat what is coming. I feel led to be blunt, like the prophet Jeremiah, who urged the people to settle where they were by planting gardens, building houses, and preparing for the long road ahead.

The forces of white supremacy and inequality in America have been orchestrating their agenda for generations, from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement. Today, they remain well-organized, well-funded, and unwavering in their mission. Meanwhile, many Americans remain oblivious or indifferent, and political infighting distracts from the real battle that’s already unfolding.

One of the defining characteristics of authoritarian regimes is the absolute demand for loyalty. The CCP ensures compliance through re-education, surveillance, imprisonment, and sometimes even execution of those who dissent. The GOP, while not using physical violence, enforces ideological purity through threats to political careers, ostracization, and primary challenges to any member who dares to oppose the party line.

• His endorsements dictate policy, mirroring how Xi’s leadership defines China’s direction.

When a political party subjugates itself to the will of one leader, democracy is no longer functioning—it is veering toward authoritarianism.

Disinformation and Propaganda

China controls its media entirely, ensuring that the public only consumes state-approved narratives. While the GOP does not have state-controlled media, it has a dedicated propaganda ecosystem—Fox News, OANN, Newsmax—that functions in the same way:

• Spreading election fraud lies and other conspiracy theories.

• Demonizing political opposition as enemies of the state.

• Creating an alternate reality that radicalizes supporters.

By controlling the narrative and limiting access to truth, the GOP has weaponized disinformation in the same way the CCP has for decades.

Parallels Between the GOP and CCP

The GOP’s Erosion of the U.S. Constitution

The U.S. Constitution was designed to prevent authoritarian rule, with checks and balances ensuring no single party or leader could dominate the system. However, the GOP’s current trajectory threatens these protections:

1. Rejecting Peaceful Transfers of Power – Trump’s refusal to accept the 2020 election results and the January 6 insurrection were direct attacks on democracy.

2. Judicial Manipulation – Appointing extreme-right judges who serve ideology over constitutional integrity.

3. Suppressing Voter Access – Making it harder for marginalized communities to vote.

4. Legislative Obstruction – Blocking policies that benefit the public unless they consolidate GOP power.

5. Normalizing Political Violence – Encouraging violent rhetoric and insurrectionist behavior.

This is not just political maneuvering—it is a deliberate shift toward minority rule and authoritarian governance.

The oceans are dying, and it feels like a tragedy of biblical proportions. As I studied passages in Revelation about the destruction of the seas and the suffering of marine life, my heart breaks. I'm an animal lover, and the thought of wildlife—fin and feather—suffering due to human carelessness is overwhelming. Yet, what I find even more distressing is the utter disregard humanity has shown towards creation. How did we, as a species, ever think it was logical to dump our trash into the oceans? It’s akin to a scenario from the science fiction movie Thor: Ragnarok, where trash falls out of the sky on a distant planet. Yet here we are—dumping not just garbage, but our very waste—into the rivers, seas, and land. The toll on marine life is catastrophic, with whales dying at an alarming rate. And still, the world’s leaders remain silent, while corporate oligarchs relentlessly prioritize their bottom lines.

The Biblical Warning: Stewardship and Wrath

This reality reminds me of the words found in the book of Revelation, where the oceans are turned to blood, and the earth is consumed by fire and pestilence as part of God's judgment on a broken world. Revelation is often dismissed as mere apocalyptic fiction, but what if it's not? What if the scriptures are less a prediction of distant destruction and more a warning about the path we’re on today? Revelation offers an image of cosmic and environmental collapse—an Earth ravaged by human sin. The sea, which has long been a symbol of life and abundance, is corrupted, and all its creatures suffer.

While it may seem extreme to link modern environmental degradation with biblical prophecy, the correlation is clear: humanity’s stewardship of the Earth is not optional. Scripture calls us to care for the creation we’ve been entrusted with. When we fail in that responsibility, we see the effects not just on the environment but on our souls, and ultimately, we see the consequences manifesting in the very systems that govern our lives.

Political and Corporate Failure: A Blind Eye to the Crisis

In our current world, however, the consequences are playing out before our eyes. When we look at the political landscape, particularly the past leadership of figures like former & now (gasp) President Trump, we see a failure to protect our environment. The destruction of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is not just a political decision—it is a moral one. By rolling back environmental protections, we have undermined efforts to address the very crises the Bible may have warned us about.

This isn't just an issue of governmental oversight; it's about corporate greed. Companies that profit from fossil fuels, unsustainable agriculture, and pollution are too often given free rein to operate without regard for the future. These corporations contribute disproportionately to climate change, and their influence on policy makes it harder to enact meaningful change. The idea of "profit over planet" has become the mantra, even as the oceans die, wildlife perishes, and we inch closer to irreversible tipping points.

In the same way that Revelation warns of divine wrath for failing to uphold justice, we are witnessing the wrath of the Earth itself as it begins to crumble under the weight of human neglect. Corporate and political leaders may turn a blind eye, but creation cannot.

The Science: A Tipping Point We Can’t Afford to Ignore

The Economist video, See What Three Degrees of Global Warming Looks Like, gives a stark glimpse into the future we’re creating. Just a few degrees of temperature increase will lead to catastrophic outcomes: floods, wildfires, extreme heat, and devastating loss of life. But even as we approach these tipping points, the conversation is still too often drowned out by misinformation, vested interests, and political inaction. This video, backed by science, should serve as a wake-up call. It's not fiction. It's reality—one we must confront before it’s too late.

And yet, there is a peculiar situation unfolding in the media. YouTube, for example, has started placing 'grey boxes' under videos that present real scientific concerns about climate change, attempting to 'clarify' the content, but often confusing rather than informing viewers. These boxes appear under credible scientific content, but I don’t see them on videos that the algorithm force-feeds users—nor do they appear under videos where misinformation is spread, such as those from figures like Trump. It’s alarming that platforms designed to promote truth are instead muddying the waters, enabling corporate interests and political ideologies to maintain their grip on power, all at the expense of the planet. This moment of disinformation, where truth is frequently obscured, mirrors the spiritual blindness described in Revelation, where people refuse to acknowledge the truth of their situation until it's too late.

The Call to Action: Stewardship, Accountability, and Hope

At this critical moment, we must choose a different path. The climate crisis is not just a political issue—it’s a moral one. The Bible’s call for us to care for the Earth is clear. We are called to be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us, not just for our benefit but for the future of all life. When we fail to heed that responsibility, we see the consequences in real-time—whether it’s dying oceans, decimated wildlife populations, or the suffering of vulnerable communities affected by environmental disasters.

For both believers and secular readers, this is a call to action. We can no longer stand idly by as our leaders make decisions that harm the planet for the sake of profit. The Bible is not a fictional story; it is a roadmap that shows us what happens when we disregard the divine call to justice, stewardship, and care. Politicians and corporate leaders must be held accountable, not just by voters but by all of us, for the decisions they make today will determine the legacy we leave for future generations.

We are at a tipping point—one that we can still reverse, if we act with urgency and moral clarity. The question is: Will we choose to listen to the signs before it’s too late, or will we allow the earth to suffer, just as Revelation warns?

Is it Judgement?

2 Chronicles 7:13-14 NIV

¹³ “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, ¹⁴ if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I look at patterns. When we look collectively at the patterns the picture becomes clear. When the wildfires first started in California, especially Paradise, the then Trump administration blamed California for not sweeping up the forest. Sadly, the latest rounds of wildfires in Southern California are evoking the same sentiment from the now Trump administration and his supporters.

When Superstorm Sandy happened, people were stunned but few thought it was God. When droughts persisted in parts of the country and heat domes parked over areas that typically received summer rains, people refused to acknowledge climate change much less God.

As bird flu persists in this country with culling of millions of birds, cattle and the milk being infected, people turn a deaf ear and blind eye. As the price of eggs increase, people blame the democrats. When COVID-19 ravaged America, people called it a hoax and prevention measures were seen as authoritarian with many governors thwarting measures to keep citizens safe.

As young people continue to commit mass murders at schools, people blame mental illness instead of the real issue of a society that is in love with guns, murder, and mayhem. When people came to the southern border seeking asylum, the then Trump administration separated the babies from their mothers to punish them for asking for help. And the governors of Texas and Florida used asylum seekers as pawns shipping them to democratic cities and states.

Signs and Calamities as Divine Warnings

In Scripture, God’s judgments are often preceded by clear warnings. Yet, when hardship strikes—whether in the form of plague, fire, or drought—too often we blame science, politics, or other human failings instead of recognizing the root cause: a collective refusal to acknowledge our dependence on God. Like Pharaoh, we prefer to point fingers rather than repent.

Throughout Scripture, God uses natural disasters, societal upheaval, and other crises as wake-up calls for repentance and spiritual realignment. When these signs are ignored or misinterpreted, it often leads to greater judgment.

• Fire and Drought:

  • "When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain" (2 Chronicles 7:13).
    Droughts and fires have often been a means of divine warning in Scripture. In Elijah's time, a drought lasted three and a half years as a direct response to Israel's idolatry (1 Kings 17-18). The refusal to address root causes—be they ecological stewardship, societal sin, or spiritual decay—mirrors the stubbornness of Ahab’s reign.

• Pestilence and Disease:

  • "Or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people" (2 Chronicles 7:13).
    COVID-19, bird flu, and other pandemics align with the biblical theme of pestilence as a call to humility and repentance (Exodus 9:3-6, Amos 4:10). Yet, the dismissal of these events as "hoaxes" or partisan issues reflects hardened hearts unwilling to turn to God.

• Economic Turmoil:
  Rising food prices and economic instability, often attributed to political policies, parallel biblical examples where famine and scarcity were used by God to call nations back to Him (Genesis 41:54-57; Joel 1:16-20).

Societal Decay and Injustice

As America continues to grapple with violence, injustice, and division, we must ask ourselves: Have we, as a nation and as the Church, become like the people of ancient Israel, choosing convenience and prosperity over justice and mercy? When children are killed in schools and families seeking asylum are torn apart at the border, we must recognize that these are not merely political crises—they are moral and spiritual crises. And God will not be silent forever.

Gun violence, immigration policies, and the mistreatment of the vulnerable—reflect a society steeped in idolatry and moral decline. These are not new in the biblical narrative and often lead to judgment.

• A Love for Violence:

  • "Violence has grown into a rod to punish wickedness" (Ezekiel 7:11).
    The glorification of guns, violence, and mayhem in American culture mirrors the days of Noah, when "the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence" (Genesis 6:11).

• Injustice Toward the Vulnerable:

  • "Woe to those who enact evil statutes and to those who constantly record unjust decisions, so as to deprive the needy of justice and rob the poor of My people of their rights" (Isaiah 10:1-2).
    Separating families at the border and using asylum seekers as political pawns are actions that grieve God’s heart, as He is a defender of the widow, the orphan, and the foreigner (Deuteronomy 10:18).

Blame-Shifting and Hardened Hearts

Blaming others for crises instead of recognizing God’s sovereignty is a recurring theme in Scripture. We know the biblical narrative of Moses going before Pharaoh requesting that he let the Hebrews go free. But Pharaoh was stubborn, and he hardened his heart, refusing to acknowledge God’s hand in the plagues. Instead of repenting, he sought to maintain control and shift blame (Exodus 7-11).

We see the same parallels today; many blame political parties, scientists, or even victims themselves for calamities, refusing to see these events as opportunities for national introspection and repentance. But this is not a time for finger-pointing or political division. God’s judgment is not about partisan politics; it is about our hearts.

As the Church, we are called to lead the way in humility and repentance. If we are to see true healing in our land, we must turn to God with broken hearts, acknowledging our role in the suffering of others and seeking His forgiveness. For those outside the faith, consider this a call to reflect on the path our society has chosen. The choice is before us: we can either continue down the path of denial, or we can turn back to God, who is both just and merciful.

God's Heart for Repentance

Despite His judgment, God’s desire is always for repentance and restoration. The refusal to turn to Him grieves His heart. But God is patient.

Even in judgment, God longs for people to recognize their need for Him and return to righteousness. God calls us to humility - a word that is often eschewed in today’s society along with the word mercy. Yet we will not experience God’s mercy without first walking in humility. The church and the nation must humble themselves and pray and turn away from wickedness (2 Chronicles 7:14). The Church in America has the responsibility to intercede for their nation and lead the way in repentance.

In the midst of destruction, we also see glimpses of God’s mercy. Communities have come together in powerful ways, offering help and healing in the wake of natural disasters. While these acts of kindness give hope, they also point to a greater truth: only God can heal a broken nation. The question remains: Will we humble ourselves before Him?

Dream Interpretation

I awoke troubled in my spirit. The dream was vivid, and I was still reeling from my neighbor’s betrayal. I was in my feelings. During my morning prayers I told the Lord how hurt I was by my neighbor’s actions. I could not understand why she would give people permission to drive across my property. After speaking with exasperation and pain to the Lord about my neighbor’s betrayal. I then asked the Lord, “what’s the significance of these bears on top of the houses?”

God’s response was clear:

Russia is coming.

I was shook and rose out of the bed in stunned silence. I went into the bathroom and after a few moments the Lord gave me the interpretation of the dream. Below is an excerpt of what the Lord is allowing me to share at this time:

Layers of War

The dream is an alert that war is coming to America. But this war is layered. This is the first war—an economic war. The shaking has begun, and nations are positioning themselves for greater conflict. The Trump administration has turned its back on longstanding allies—betraying its neighbors and trusted partners—while aligning itself with adversaries who will ultimately turn against her.

Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs on billions of dollars of U.S. products in response to America's economic aggression. Trade wars are rarely just about trade. They are the first blows in a larger battle.

Be alert, prepared, and aware—because more will follow.

Call to Action: Be Strategic, Not Fearful

This is a time to watch, pray, and prepare. Do not be afraid. Please be strategic.

✔️ Be mindful of shifting global alliances, economic instability, and how these changes may impact you, your family, and your community.
✔️ Watch world events through a prophetic lens—many things are distractions, but some are clear signs.
✔️ Pray for discernment, for protection, and for the wisdom to act.
✔️ Prepare wisely:

• Grow food—even a small garden can make a difference.

• Stock up on essentials, but do not hoard—hoarding is driven by fear; preparation is guided by wisdom.

• Stay situationally aware—pay attention to economic shifts, political movements, and local threats.

The Enneagram: Origins and Controversy

The Enneagram is a personality typing system that has gained traction in recent years. However, its roots are far from conventional. According to a video by Jackie Hill Perry, the Enneagram’s creator, Oscar Ichazo, claimed to have received its framework from Metatron, a being he described as angelic, through a process known as automatic writing. Within many Christian traditions, automatic writing is associated with demonic influence, a claim Perry emphasizes in her video.

For context, Metatron is a figure referenced in Jewish mystical texts like the Talmud and Kabbalah. Descriptions of Metatron vary widely—he is depicted as the "Prince of the Presence," an ascended version of Enoch, a celestial scribe, and even as the archangel Michael. These varying and often contradictory attributes present a figure whose identity and nature remain elusive, leading some to view him as deceptive.

In light of this origin story, Perry unequivocally labeled the Enneagram as demonic. Her bold stance sparked widespread discussion online, particularly on Christian social media, and introduced many, including myself, to the Enneagram’s controversial origins.

Jackie Hill Perry: Boldness in Faith

Jackie Hill Perry is a multifaceted figure: a minister, poet, Bible teacher, hip-hop artist, and author of Gay Girl, Good God. In her video, Perry articulates her concerns about the Enneagram with clarity and conviction, which I found both compelling and thought-provoking. Her perspective aligns with her broader ministry of calling believers to spiritual discernment and truth.

However, Perry’s critique of the Enneagram also drew significant backlash. The video led to heated discussions on Twitter, eventually culminating in Perry deleting her account. Some of the criticism came from prominent figures like Beth Moore, who weighed in on the situation with a call for grace and reflection.

Beth Moore’s tweet stated:

Praying for you as you navigate all of this. This much I know: Jesus did not do what He did for women in the Gospels only to have 1/2 the global gospel witness wiped out after Pentecost. How & where we proclaim the gospel may be in question but that we are to proclaim it is not.

This unfolding controversy prompted me to reflect on my own journey. The video, and the subsequent reactions, highlighted the importance of spiritual discernment in today’s culture. It also made me reconsider my own goals in ministry, creative projects, and engagement with the broader Christian community.

The Enneagram debate is just one example of how cultural tools can infiltrate Christian spaces, sometimes with questionable origins. It underscores the need for believers to be vigilant and discerning, testing everything against the truth of Scripture.

Similarly, Jackie Hill Perry’s boldness serves as a reminder of the cost of standing firm in one’s convictions. Whether or not one agrees with her conclusions, her willingness to speak out is admirable in a time when many shy away from controversial topics.

• 39% of White people (649,000)

These numbers reveal an undeniable truth: poverty in Mississippi is pervasive, and it disproportionately impacts Black and Brown communities. The Jackson water crisis is one stark example of how systemic neglect harms the most vulnerable.

The Water Crisis in Jackson

For years, Jackson’s aging water infrastructure has been in a state of collapse. Boil-water notices and extended outages have become the norm, and residents have been forced to rely on bottled water for basic needs like drinking, cooking, and bathing. In some neighborhoods, the water that flows from the tap is brown and contaminated—unsafe for consumption or use.

This crisis reached a breaking point in 2022 when flooding caused catastrophic damage to the city’s already failing water treatment system. Consider the health impacts of prolonged exposure to contaminated water, including increased risks of lead poisoning, gastrointestinal illnesses, and skin conditions. Families are forced to spend money they don’t have on bottled water, adding to the financial strain of already living in poverty. Children miss school when the water system fails, and businesses struggle to operate without reliable water access.

This crisis also takes an emotional toll. Imagine the psychological burden of knowing your government has abandoned you, that the system meant to protect you is indifferent to your suffering. This is the reality for thousands of Jackson residents.

Political Choices, Political Consequences

The Jackson water crisis is a political failure as much as it is an infrastructure one. It’s a direct result of leadership that prioritizes short-term political gains over the well-being of its citizens. Republican leaders in Mississippi have chosen to ignore the needs of Jackson, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and disenfranchisement that keeps the state’s most vulnerable communities in crisis.

But this neglect comes at a cost. By disenfranchising poor and minority communities, these leaders are alienating a significant portion of their electorate. If Republicans truly cared for all their citizens, they might find that more people of color would be willing to vote for them. Clean water is a right, not a privilege. Jackson’s water crisis is a wake-up call for all of us. It’s a reminder that systemic racism and economic inequality are not relics of the past; they are alive and well, shaping the lives of millions of Americans today.

The Jackson water crisis is about more than one city. It’s a test of our national commitment to justice and equity. Will we rise to meet it? Or will we allow neglect and indifference to prevail?

America has a choice to make. Let’s make the right one.

Note: After loads of media attention federal monies were released to Jackson, Mississippi. Since the problem has been growing for decades, it will take years to resolve. Politics sanitizes how the problem developed and why it persists.

The reality is it never should've happened in the first place. America is a first world nation with a third world infrastructure. This is not an anomaly; it is a norm in many communities across the country. And sadly, the current administration under the 47th president will not improve things, instead things will get increasingly worse. That's where you come in. You decide which kind of America you want to live in: An America where everyone thrives, or an America that turns back the clock to a period in history with massive disparities and a wealthy minority.

The Goal?

To transition away from massive commercial farms driven by profit and monoculture crops and toward smaller, eco-centric farms focused on building healthy communities and ensuring no one goes hungry.

Yes, I am a romantic, but this is one of my dreams. In my mind, I weave stories of transformation. Sometimes I’m a superhero swooping in to save the day; other times, I’m an ambassador of change, fostering collaboration and igniting innovation.

So, you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon a video recommended by YouTube. It showcased something remarkable happening in the city of my birth—Brooklyn, NY.

We Can Do This

We can stop overfishing our seas, poisoning our waters with pollutants, and depleting our aquifers with unsustainable practices. We can replace pesticides and chemical fertilizers with regenerative methods that restore the land instead of exhausting it.

The beauty of aquaponics and vertical farming is their ability to thrive in urban and suburban settings. These systems conserve water, eliminate harmful runoffs, and produce fresh, nutritious food right where it’s needed most.

But before we can see a global shift, we must first change hearts and minds. This is the most daunting task of all. The words of Jesus come to mind: “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a wealthy person to enter the Kingdom of God.” Why? Because those who have much often cling tightly to the status quo. Change, especially the kind that disrupts power structures, is rarely welcomed by those who benefit most from them.

Still, I believe. I believe in the power of communities to transform themselves. I believe in the resilience of people to work toward a better future when given the tools and opportunities.

This dream isn’t just mine; it’s a call to action for anyone who dares to imagine a world where no one goes hungry, and the earth is treated with the care it deserves.

So, here’s my question to you: Will you dare to dream with me?

The fact that a billionaire immigrant is being allowed to systematically weaken federal agencies while other immigrants are being deported or having their citizenship questioned is deeply alarming.

But it’s more than alarming—it’s a coup in slow motion. Elon Musk, through the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has taken direct control over critical government functions, dictating how federal agencies communicate (forcing them onto X), locking employees out of systems, and moving privileged—and at times classified—data onto private servers under his control. With the Justice Department and FBI being gutted and a GOP-controlled Congress looking the other way, it appears there is no one legally challenging him. The result? A private immigrant citizen is dismantling the U.S. government from within, unchecked.

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, Musk made his intentions clear, posting on X:

USAID is a criminal organization. Time for it to die

This is more than just rhetoric. Musk is actively gutting USAID and other federal agencies, crippling America’s ability to operate on the global stage.

Musk has expressed resentment toward his home country, South Africa, and some of his views align with apartheid-era ideologies. Whether by design or coincidence, he is now working to undermine the very country that helped end apartheid. He isn’t helping America—he is harming it. Despite his wealth, Musk remains a mean-spirited man who, by the standards of those he aligns with, might be called “low IQ.”

We’ve seen this pattern before—historically and biblically—and it never ends well for democracy.

Historical Parallels: The Anatomy of an Oligarchic Takeover

What Musk is doing eerily mirrors past moments in history when unelected billionaires or corporate elites seized control over a nation’s core functions:

1. Gilded Age America (Late 1800s-Early 1900s):

   • Industrialists like J.P. Morgan and Rockefeller amassed such power that they controlled not only the economy but key government operations, bypassing elected officials.

   • Musk now does the same—wielding control over communications (X), space infrastructure (SpaceX, Starlink), and national security data without oversight.

2. Post-Soviet Russia (1990s-Present):

   • After the collapse of the USSR, oligarchs privatized state industries, bought political influence, and operated with impunity. The government became dependent on them.

   • Musk has already privatized U.S. government communications and infrastructure while shielding himself from regulation.

3. The Fascist-Corporate Alliance (1930s-40s Europe):

   • Mussolini and Hitler relied on corporate elites to help consolidate their regimes. These industrialists influenced policy, controlled messaging, and shaped public perception while the state turned authoritarian.

   • Musk’s open alignment with far-right leaders, combined with his silencing of dissenting voices on X, mirrors this dangerous synergy.

A Biblical Parallel: The Second Beast of Revelation?

Revelation describes a second beast that wields technology, deceives the masses, and compels the world to worship a system of power. While I am not saying Musk is the second beast, he certainly embodies aspects of it:

• Technology as Power: Musk has the ability to control global communications, manipulate information, and exert influence over governments.

• Worship and Blind Devotion: His followers treat him like a messianic figure, defending every move—even when it harms democracy.

• An Unchecked Coup: Much like the beast in Revelation, Musk operates beyond traditional government oversight, consolidating power in ways unseen in American history.

This level of concentrated power in the hands of one unelected man—especially one who shows hostility toward democratic institutions—is something that has not happened in America since Lincoln’s assassination. Even during Andrew Jackson’s reign of terror against Indigenous people, the Union itself remained intact.

Conditioned Not to Recognize the Coup

Today, however, Musk is actively dismantling America’s infrastructure from within—and no one is stopping him as we watch it happen in real time.

The question is: How long will we watch before it’s too late?

Consider this, the GOP took "Stay Woke," a term rooted in Black activism—one that literally means being aware of systemic injustice—and turned it into a rallying cry against critical thinking, ginning up their base to turn a deaf ear to “wokeness”. Curiously, the GOP wants their base asleep because asleep people don’t question, don’t resist, and don’t recognize the coup happening in real time.

Now, with Musk consolidating power in ways even Trump never could, the stakes are even higher. Because the GOP trick worked. Their base is asleep and fighting imaginary DEI wars instead of listening to those DEI people who told them to "Stay Woke."

For millions of Americans, Medicaid is not just a safety net; it’s a lifeline. Over 72 million people—children, the elderly, and those with disabilities—rely on Medicaid for basic healthcare. And yet, on January 28, 2025, Medicaid websites are mysteriously down following Trump's funding freeze, throwing vulnerable individuals into a state of uncertainty and panic. Add to this the looming freeze on school lunch funding, which feeds poor children, and a chilling pattern emerges: a deliberate assault on the poor by the wealthy and powerful.

Architects of the Pain

This calculated financial violence has its architects: Trump, Elon Musk, and others in their ilk. Musk—a man who moved to Texas to avoid paying taxes—is now telling the public, “There will be hardship.” But who will bear the brunt of this hardship? Certainly not Musk, whose wealth grows exponentially even as he refuses to pay his fair share. No, the pain will be borne by the children who go hungry, the single mothers scrambling to make ends meet, and the elderly who’ve spent their lives contributing to society only to face indignity in their final years.

Trump’s first term in office provided us a roadmap of what we’re seeing today. He gutted essential social programs, destabilized federal agencies, and painted himself as the hero of a working-class America he continues to betray. Now, in concert with billionaires like Musk, he’s doubling down on this economic warfare, emboldened by a system that rewards cruelty and shields the obscenely wealthy from accountability.

But let’s be clear about who these programs serve. The narrative perpetuated by right-wing media paints Medicaid, SNAP, and other social safety nets as “Black programs.” They portray Black and brown people as the face of poverty, as undeserving recipients of government “handouts.” This is a lie. The majority of Medicaid recipients are white, as are the majority of people who rely on school lunch programs and SNAP. Yet Black people, who own less than 2% of the nation’s wealth and face persistent structural racism, bear the brunt of the stigma and scapegoating.

The Cycle Repeats

It is exhausting to see this same cycle repeat, decade after decade. I grew up hearing my mother say she wanted a government job because it offered stability and benefits. For many Black families, that’s been the goal: government jobs, home ownership, and education as pathways to a better life. But no matter how hard we work, the goalposts are always moved. Corporate America remains hostile to Black advancement, as I have experienced firsthand. Government jobs, long a bastion of stability for Black workers, are now being systematically targeted. And education, while invaluable, has left many of us saddled with debt in a society that continues to devalue Black excellence.

What we’re witnessing now is not accidental. It is a deliberate strategy to strip resources from the most vulnerable while the wealthy amass more power. Trump’s policies and Musk’s rhetoric are just the latest chapters in a long history of financial violence that disproportionately impacts Black communities. This is about control. It’s about maintaining a racial caste system by ensuring that Black and brown people remain economically oppressed, all while using us as scapegoats to deflect from the real culprits.

Pride Goes Before A Fall

The wicked spread themselves like a green bay tree, as Psalm 37:35-36 so aptly states:

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

³⁶ Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

This scripture reminds us of the transient nature of evil power. The wealthy and wicked who plot the suffering of others may seem untouchable now, but their time is limited. Their legacies will not endure. What will endure is the collective strength of those who refuse to bow to this system. What will endure is the righteousness of those who stand up and fight.

To those complicit in this destruction—those who voted for Trump, those who remain silent, those who cry out now only because they’ve been personally affected—I say this: You helped build this. Your deference to the golden statue will not spare you. Your cries for help now ring hollow to those of us who have been fighting all along.

Resist

And yet, for the innocent caught in this web of greed and hatred, for the frightened children, for the families who don’t know how they will survive, I lift my voice. I lift it because someone must. I lift it because silence is complicity.

James 4:6-7 tells us:

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

There is power in resistance. There is power in truth. And there is power in humility before God, even as we roar against injustice. We must resist the devils of greed, racism, and apathy. We must expose their schemes, confront their lies, and demand better for ourselves and our communities.

This is not just about policy; it is about humanity. It is about the soul of a nation that has long been at war with itself. And while the wicked spread themselves like a green bay tree, we must remember that their time is fleeting. Justice will come. Until then, we fight.

To my readers, I leave you with this question:

To the Black mothers, fathers, students, and workers who are tired and angry but still fighting: You are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone. And to those who have been complicit, it is not too late to join the fight for what is right. But know this: Silence is not an option, and neutrality is a myth.

The echoes of Jim Crow are no longer faint—they are loud, deliberate, and dangerous. With the Justice Department halting civil rights cases and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives systematically dismantled by major corporations and government agencies, it’s clear America is on the brink of what could be termed a "new Jim Crow era."

When the current administration invokes the idea of “Black jobs” as a distinct and separate category, it feels less like progress and more like an intentional resurrection of the racial caste system. MAGA’s version of a "Great America" is a return to an era where rights were rationed based on skin color and domestic terrorism, such as lynchings, was part of daily life.

Lessons from the Past

The Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University reminds us of the tools and strategies used to enforce segregation and white supremacy during that era. These tools ranged from legal discrimination to cultural propaganda, all designed to dehumanize and diminish African Americans. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, history doesn't just repeat—it rhymes. Today’s tactics are more covert but equally devastating.

The rollback of civil rights cases signals that institutions meant to protect all Americans are selectively choosing whose rights are worth defending. This, paired with corporate America’s retreat from DEI, threatens to solidify systemic inequities further. And, with the elimination of remote work—a decision that disproportionately affects Black workers who benefited from its flexibility—economic disparities are poised to widen.

The dismantling of civil rights protections and the resurgence of xenophobic rhetoric are not isolated moments in American history—they are part of a broader global pattern seen in regimes that began with targeted persecution of the few and ended in violence against the many. These authoritarian moves, combined with the groupthink of Congress, the complicity of courts, and corporate retreat from accountability, show that no one is truly safe.

The Role of Media and Technology

Elon Musk’s alignment with Trump and the amplification of far-right ideologies on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) exacerbate the dangers. Social media’s power to shape narratives, stoke division, and silence dissent cannot be underestimated. During Jim Crow, it was newspapers and radio that spread messages of hate; today, it’s algorithms designed to amplify outrage.

The pardoning of January 6 insurrectionists underscores the erosion of accountability and the rise of a dangerous precedent: the absolution of violent actors whose actions directly threaten democracy. It’s a chilling reminder that the storming of the Capitol was not a one-off event but part of a larger, ongoing movement to dismantle progress and embolden white supremacy.

A Pattern Seen Before

History offers chilling examples of how regimes spiral from targeted discrimination into full-scale atrocity:

• Nazi Germany: Hitler’s rise to power was paved with propaganda that blamed Jewish people for economic struggles and social decay. Laws like the Nuremberg Race Laws stripped Jewish citizens of their rights incrementally, normalizing discrimination until violence became an accepted tool of control. The Holocaust didn’t start with concentration camps—it started with xenophobic rhetoric, economic marginalization, and complicit courts that upheld unjust laws.

• Rwanda: In the years leading up to the genocide, a propaganda machine worked overtime to dehumanize the Tutsi population. Radio broadcasts labeled them as “cockroaches,” fueling hate and normalizing violence. The lack of global intervention and the complicity of those in power led to one of the most brutal genocides of the 20th century.

• Apartheid South Africa: Decades of systematic racial segregation were enforced through laws and upheld by courts, relegating the Black majority to second-class status. The regime maintained its power through violence, economic oppression, and propaganda that justified these measures in the name of "security" and "order."

In each case, the descent into genocide and systemic violence followed a predictable path:

1. The creation of an “other”: Targeting marginalized groups as scapegoats for societal problems.

2. Normalization of exclusion: Incremental legal and social policies that strip these groups of rights and opportunities.

3. Consolidation of power: Courts and institutions are manipulated to uphold injustice.

4. Widespread complicity: The majority of the population either supports the regime or remains silent out of fear, apathy, or indoctrination.

5. Escalation into violence: What begins as exclusion turns into persecution, and persecution turns into genocide.

America’s Parallel Descent

The echoes of these patterns in America today are unmistakable. The rollback of civil rights cases and the dismantling of DEI initiatives are not just policy changes—they are deliberate steps toward exclusion and marginalization. The courts, once the last line of defense for justice, are increasingly complicit, as seen in recent rulings that prioritize partisan agendas over equal protection under the law.

This regime’s strategy mirrors the playbook of authoritarian movements:

• Rhetoric: Language that divides, scapegoats, and dehumanizes. Referring to immigrants as “invaders” or entire communities as “thugs” primes the public to accept exclusionary policies.

• Legislation: Policies that target marginalized groups—restricting voting rights, banning books, and erasing diversity programs—set the stage for broader systemic oppression.

• Enforcement: The pardoning of insurrectionists sends a clear message that violence in service of the regime’s goals will go unpunished, emboldening future acts of terrorism.

The Fragility of Safety

The danger lies in the illusion that these measures only affect a few. Historically, once an authoritarian regime solidifies power, its scope of persecution widens. Those who felt insulated—who believed the oppression was someone else’s problem—soon find themselves targets.

In Nazi Germany, it wasn’t just Jewish people who were victimized; Romani people, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and political dissidents also faced persecution. In Rwanda, initial tensions between Hutus and Tutsis escalated into indiscriminate violence. In South Africa, anyone who challenged apartheid faced brutal retaliation.

America’s violent past—marked by slavery, Indigenous genocide, lynchings, and Jim Crow—is a stark reminder that such horrors are not foreign to this soil. The rhetoric of “Make America Great Again” is a call to return to a time when white supremacy ruled unchecked.

The Role of Complicity

As courts uphold unjust laws and Congress remains silent or endorses harmful policies, the complicity of those in power becomes as dangerous as the actions of the regime itself. Corporations, by retreating from DEI initiatives and pandering to far-right rhetoric, signal that profit matters more than people.

The media, too, plays a role. Propaganda disguised as news, amplified by figures like Elon Musk, reinforces groupthink and conditions the public to accept injustice. Platforms that once promised to connect us now spread division, enabling the rise of authoritarian ideologies.

A Warning and a Call to Action

If history teaches us anything, it is that silence and inaction are the allies of oppression.

The parallels are clear, and the stakes are high. To prevent a slide into authoritarianism, we must:

1. Name the threat: Call out policies, rhetoric, and actions for what they are—steps toward systemic oppression.

2. Educate: Teach history honestly, highlighting the patterns of past regimes and their devastating consequences.

3. Resist: Refuse to normalize exclusion and injustice, whether through protests, voting, or holding institutions accountable.

4. Stand in solidarity: Recognize that an attack on one group is an attack on all.

History warns us, but it also empowers us. The lessons are there if we choose to learn them.

A Dark Warning

The parallels between this moment and the Jim Crow era are stark. Then, as now, there was resistance to progress, fear of demographic shifts, and a desire to return to a mythical “better time.” But the truth is, that "better time" was only "better" for a select few—at the expense of the marginalized majority.

As the country teeters on the edge of deeper division and chaos, it’s imperative to remain vigilant, informed, and active. The dismantling of civil rights, DEI initiatives, and worker protections are not isolated events—they are pieces of a broader strategy to maintain power through division and fear.

The question remains: Will we learn from history, or will we repeat it?

The Lessons of History

• France’s Poor Harvests and Revolution: In the years leading up to the French Revolution, France endured a series of poor harvests that drastically reduced food supplies. This scarcity drove up the price of staples like bread, the primary food source for most people. Economic mismanagement by the monarchy exacerbated the crisis, as heavy taxation and inequitable wealth distribution left the poorest citizens unable to afford basic necessities. The combination of hunger, economic disparity, and government indifference fueled unrest, ultimately sparking the French Revolution. This serves as a stark reminder of how neglecting the needs of the marginalized can lead to societal upheaval.

• America’s Dust Bowl: During the 1930s, a combination of severe drought and poor agricultural practices caused widespread ecological disaster across the Great Plains. Over-plowing and monoculture farming left the soil unable to retain moisture, leading to massive dust storms that devastated farms and displaced millions. Coupled with the economic strain of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl highlighted the consequences of unsustainable land use and the importance of environmental stewardship. This cautionary tale warns us against ignoring the delicate balance between human activity and natural ecosystems.

The Challenges of Today

• Agricultural Strain: Modern agriculture faces unprecedented challenges due to climate change and environmental degradation. Droughts in major agricultural regions reduce crop yields, while flooding damages existing farmland. Additionally, diseases such as avian flu continue to decimate livestock populations, disrupting food supply chains. These pressures make food scarcity a growing concern, especially in areas already grappling with poverty and limited resources.

• Corporate Practices: In today’s economy, large corporations often dominate the food supply chain, prioritizing profit over accessibility. Price inflation, driven by market manipulation and speculative trading, has made everyday essentials increasingly unaffordable for many families. Practices such as hoarding and price gouging during crises further exacerbate the situation, leaving low-income communities especially vulnerable to food insecurity.

• Policy Impacts: Recent and proposed economic policies, including tariffs and tax reforms, threaten to widen the gap between the wealthy and the poor. Tariffs on agricultural imports can increase food prices domestically, while tax cuts for the wealthy often lead to reduced funding for social programs that support marginalized communities. These policy choices risk creating a cycle of economic inequality that deepens societal divides, leaving the most vulnerable even further behind.
